Cold Brew

Smooth, low-acid, and naturally sweet. Cold brew is steeped slowly in the fridge, so there's no live timer here — just mix it and wait. This makes a concentrate you dilute to taste.

Coffee
100 g
Water
1000 g
Ratio
1:10 (concentrate)
Time
12–24 hrs

You'll need

  • •Large jar or carafe (~1.5 L)
  • •Burr grinder
  • •Fine strainer, cloth, or paper filter
  • •Fridge

Before you start

  1. 1.Grind 100 g of coffee coarse (coarser than French press).
  2. 2.Have a clean jar and a second container ready for straining.

Steps

  1. 1. Combine

    2 min

Add 100 g of coarse grounds to 1 L of cold water. Stir well so every ground is wet.

    Water: 1000 g

  2. 2. Steep

    12–24 hrs

Cover and refrigerate for 12–24 hours. Longer steeping gives a stronger concentrate.

  3. 3. Strain

    5 min

Pour through a fine filter into a clean container. Let it drip — don't squeeze the grounds, or it turns bitter.

  4. 4. Serve

    —

Dilute the concentrate about 1:1 with water or milk and serve over ice.

Tips

  • •A coarse grind keeps the concentrate from turning muddy.
  • •Steep longer (toward 24 hrs) for a stronger, bolder concentrate.
  • •The concentrate keeps about a week in the fridge.
