Quick, forgiving, and endlessly tweakable. This is a smooth, clean single-cup recipe using the standard (upright) method.
- Coffee
- 15 g
- Water
- 220 g
- Ratio
- 1:14.7
- Time
- 1–2 min
You'll need
- •AeroPress
- •Paper filter
- •Kettle
- •Scale
- •Stirrer or spoon
- •Sturdy mug
Before you start
- 1.Put a filter in the cap, rinse it, and twist the cap onto the chamber.
- 2.Stand the AeroPress upright on a sturdy mug and set it on the scale.
- 3.Grind 15 g of coffee medium-fine and add it to the chamber, then tare.
- 4.Heat water to about 85°C for a smoother, less bitter cup.
Steps
1. Add water
0:00 – 0:15 (15s)Pour 220 g of water over the grounds, saturating them evenly.
Water: 0 → 220 g
2. Stir & steep
0:15 – 0:30 (15s)Stir gently 3 times, then insert the plunger just enough to seal and stop dripping. Let it steep.
3. Press
0:30 – 1:00 (30s)Press down slowly and steadily over about 30 seconds, stopping as soon as you hear a hiss.
Tips
- •Stop pressing the moment you hear a hiss — pushing past it adds bitterness.
- •Lower water temperature (~80–85°C) gives a sweeter, rounder cup.
- •Once comfortable, try the inverted method for a longer, controlled steep.
